Coach & Volunteer Information
Thank you for volunteering to coach!
Our volunteer coaches play an important role in Burke County Recreation. Beyond teaching the fundamentals of the game, coaches help young athletes learn teamwork, sportsmanship, responsibility, confidence, and respect.
To help provide a safe and positive environment for our participants, all coaching requirements must be completed before a volunteer is permitted to coach.
Becoming a Burke County Recreation Coach
1. Complete the Coach Application. Go to your account and click the 'Coach Application' link to fill out online.
2. Complete and submit all required background check information.
3. Submit your required paperwork to the Jonathan Broxton Park Office.
4. Complete the required coach certification.
5. Complete any additional sport-specific certification requirements.
6. Receive your Recreation Department coach's shirt before participating in games.

Coach Certification
Certification is Mandatory
All coaches who participate in games must be certified. Coach certification is required before you are permitted to coach your team during games.
Your coach application and required background check paperwork must be submitted to the Jonathan Broxton Park Office before completing the coach certification process.
Online coaching certification is available through NAYS.

Please note: Online coach certification fees are not reimbursed by Burke County Recreation.
Football Coaches
Additional Football Certification Required
Football certification is mandatory for all Tackle and Flag Football coaches.
Please review the football certification information in addition to completing the standard volunteer and coach certification requirements.

Coach's Shirt & Game-Day Requirements
Only approved and certified coaches are permitted on the field or in the dugout area during games.
All coaches must wear their Recreation Department-issued coach's shirt while participating in games.
Coach's shirts will only be issued after all required paperwork has been submitted and coach certification has been completed.
Coach's shirts are not issued on Opening Day. Please complete all requirements by the designated deadline so you are eligible to coach when the season begins.

Coaches who have not completed the required paperwork and certification by the designated deadline will not be permitted to coach until all requirements are complete.
